Many thanks to the women of NAWBO for a great evening at the 2008 Gala. What a fantastic job in event planning for this annual celebration of women business owners in Charlotte. I am honored to have been a judge for the competition, and I am even more fortunate to have gotten to know several of you and to have learned more about NAWBO. Thanks, again, for all that your organization does to support small business and entrepreneurship - a vital role in our economic growth and prosperity. Please consider this an open invitation to visit the college and the CPCC Institute for Entrepreneurship.
-- Lori Day, Exec. Dir.

PS - My hat's off to raffle prize sponsor Donald Haack Diamonds... Am I lucky or what??!! The necklace is beautiful, and I am thrilled with winning it.

I would love the opportunity to work with the entrepreneurial women of NAWBO or the corporate partners which support these women. Please let me know if you are aware of any available internship opportunities Thank you.
 Kenya Mauldin   May 1, 2008, 10:28 pm
Hi. My name is Kenya Mauldin and I recently attended a women's seminar and was encouraged to join an organization for women. I thought what a better organization than women busines owners. Succesful, motivating women. How empowering is that!! Does this association discuss more than the business side? If not, any suggestions for great organizations to increase confidence, self-esteem and be empowered with successful women?? Please email me at kenyamauldin@aol.com

Does anyone know a NAWBO member that can help me set-up my company to accept credit cards for payment. I'm a service company, so I don't have many transactions, but I think it would help me land some project too.

I need help in some government project....trying to solve a heat problem in helicopters but everyone I call drops the ball at the top in Washington....how is a woman owned business to make it? do you have any ideas?
 Laurie Giles   December 17, 2007, 12:19 pm
During my nearly 20 years as a attorney practicing in the areas of family law and estate planning and administration I have noticed three generalizations about many women going through difficult life transitions such as divorce or death of a spouse, 1) many women approach the process fragmented, they will hire a lawyer to handle the legal aspects but fail to hire a financial planner, realtor or mortgage broker to work as a team to ensure a cohesive outcome and future, and 2) because a change in income is inevitable with such changes many women must either enter or re-enter the job world, create a home based business or increase skill level to advance. 3) Many of these women fail to develop a workable life plan to move to the next level. Realizing that these three issues should be addressed I have opened a coaching/consulting business geared toward women in transition. I am currently seeking professionals interested in working with these woman in a collaborative environment; attorneys, financial planners, estate planners, real estate agents, mortgage brokers ect. I am also seeking prospective business opportunities such as Mary Kay, pampered chef, and the like. If you are interested please e-mail me at lauriebgiles@aol.com

Hi! Just a quick thank you to everyone who came to the NAWBO New Member Orientation at Ageless Remedies SouthPark yesterday evening. We all had a wonderful time and hope you did, too. I know I learned some things -- I'm a relatively new NAWBO member myself.
It was lots of fun meeting new, amazing women and we appreciate the time and effort it took for NAWBO to put together such a successful event.
Happy Holidays to all,
Elaine Greenberg

My husband and I are meeting
with the appropriate professionals
to put together a business plan for
an upscale home furnishings gallery
to sell original art, pottery, linens,
rugs, etc. We will be searching for
the right space, making sure we
understand all retail business laws,
etc. He will be handling the marketing
and advertising end of the business,
but that is the extent to which he
wishes to be involved. Therefore,
I am looking for a woman with a
strong desire to partner with me to
build a successful business. The
business will be completely funded
by us and the partner will receive
equity in the business for helping
to build it. We will be going through
the process slowly to make sure
everything is done correctly. Anyone
who has a strong desire to succeed
and only put time and effort into
a business should contact me at

I am a single mom of two boys, 8 and 3, no financial or physical help from their dad and I was laid-off from my last job. I have been seeking work for the last two months but I also have been trying to get my business off the ground as a Virtual Assistant. I feel like I can make the money I need to support my family with my business, but, with more bills than money coming right now, I have to look at what will feed my kids and keep the roof over our head. I really want to make my home business work so that I can maintain a good income and most of all the time with my boys that they don't get from anyone else. I could use any advise, help, support, or networking information that any of you could send my way. Please feel free to email me at joys0830@aol.com. I hope to hear from all of you soon. Thanks in advance for even just allowing me to post my request.

Greetings from your new Charlotte Chapter Prez! Hope everyone had a great 4th . . . here's a plug for 2 great upcoming events - 1) Wine tasting - Thursday, July 19th - finally - a get together that won't include any 'announcements'! 2)Our August monthly meeting (Aug. 7) is going to be BIG! We've lined up 3 great panelists, including the Mayor of Charlotte, Mayor Pat McCrory. I want a BIG turnout for this so he can see what an impressive group we are. Check out the Calendar of Events for more info on both of these. And, if I can assist your entrepreneurial endeavors in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me at Celia@GoWithGCI.com

Hello! I'll be moving back to Charlotte by the end of the year and looking to start a franchise. Can you give me a little more information about NAWBO Charlotte, such as how often are the meetings, networking sessions, etc?

Thanks!

I work at The Crown Athletic Club in uptown Charlotte. We are offering a Women's Fitness 101 Seminar to working women in the Charlotte area that are looking to create a work-out/life balance. The seminar and workout will take about 2 hours and can be scheduled any time of day. I am looking for groups of 10 or more. Please let me know if you are interested.

Hello,
I work as a jewelry artist and I have had a website for the past three years through which I have sold my pieces. Recently, I sold to a store in New York and I am pursuing my business full-time now to be able to spend more time developing what I love. I am interested in attending Tuesday night's event, but I am not a member of NAWBO. Do I have to be a current member to attend events?
Thank you,
Leigh Ann

KUDOS to the 2006-2007 NAWBO Charlotte Board of Directors and President, Robyn Crigger. The board has worked hard to continue efforts from the national organizational structure changes and lay a solid foundation for implementation of the new governance beginning next year. We have a great group of leaders coming in for the 2007-2008 year under the leadership of incoming President, Celia Klein. I'm looking forward to more great things within NAWBO Charlotte. As I leave the board of directors after 6 years, I just have to say thanks to everyone that serves this awesome organization! Cheers to our members and leaders! Sandie Ridings, Immediate Past President

Just wanted to congratulate the Special Events Committee for a fabulous Gala. There were many changes this year in the Gala and I think they were for the better. Our attendence was way up, the speaker was inspiring and the setting wonderful. Thanks for all your time and energy!

I am not a memeber, but am interested
in opening a business. I have the
financial means and am quite interested
in opening an art gallery. But, I really
want a person to partner with me -
not to provide money, but to help
with marketing, launching the business,
etc. What is the best way to find someone who is interested?
 Melissa White   April 24, 2007, 4:23 pm
Hello,
My name is Melissa White and I am the Public Relations Manager of a website called Women of Charlotte (WOC). Women of Charlotte, www.womenofcharlotte.net, as heard on the “Matt and Ramona Show” on 107.9 The Link, was created by Tiffany Brinson to provide an organization designed to give women the opportunity to come together to listen, share and support each other. We are quickly becoming one of the best things about Charlotte! It's a great way for women to meet friends, plan outings and discover their city, whether they've lived here for years or just arrived.
Women of Charlotte has grown considerably in the past year and a half. One of the things that we have noticed in the time that WOC has been operational is that women often ask questions about local businesses and services. And as you know, word of mouth, especially among our demographic, is very powerful. We want to help businesses in the area, especially those devoted to the service of women, gain new and returning clientele, and by extension, maintain the high quality of our website. If this is something that may be of interest to you, check out our website and get back with me at your earliest convenience.

Thank you for your time!

Best regards,
Melissa White
Public Relations Manager

Fabi,
There were suppose to be greeters at each meeting and there usually were. I think they get caught up in visiting and forget what they are suppose to do. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.
Yes, you did sign up to be a mentor but the person that was suppose to coordinate it dropped off the face of the earth. She was telling me it was moving along but then I heard nothing. I apologize but it was just too much for me to start it myself. Hopefully next year we will be able to get it going.
 Sandie Ridings   April 6, 2007, 6:35 am
Hi Candice,

Give Ellen Linares a call and she will take care of you - (704) 365-2014. She is one of our NAWBO Charlotte members. Tell her I said "hi". :-)
 Candice Langston   March 30, 2007, 1:20 pm
I need help with an affordable health care plan for a small business. Advice and referrals are welcome, or if you are in the industry and can help me get set up, that's even better! Email or call--704.365-4536. Thank you!!

Meeting Hostess is an interesting idea...Last year I had volunteered to be a guide/networking mentor of sorts to new members (I don't remember the title) But the concept was to lend a hand to new members...help them make introductions, contact them to have them register for meetings etc...I thought it was a great concept...Could be used for any members who need a bit of networking help as well...Any comment on what happened to initiating this? (wouldn't this fall under Membership?)
 Nicole Sinclair   March 20, 2007, 11:56 am
Thanks so much Celia! It was the efforts of everyone that made it such a success! I just hope that we can KEEP IT UP, because NAWBO is a wonderful organization and it deserves it!
 Celia Klein   March 6, 2007, 10:24 pm
A hearty congrats to Nicole Sinclair for the trifecta- three great speakers in a row! Nicole - today's meeting is probably one of the largest in terms of attendance we've had in YEARS! You made NAWBO-Charlotte shine today and I sincerely thank you for your efforts!
 Sandie Ridings   March 5, 2007, 8:08 pm
Cool Message Board Lillie - thanks!
Stephanie - Yes the NAWBO address is: 1800 Camden Rd., Suite 107, #44
Charlotte, NC 28203 -- same place /different box (it is a UPS center). :-)
Maggie - Attendance varies depending on the event - for example, the March 6 luncheon has about 100 registrants now - Welcome to NAWBO Charlotte!!
 Lillie Newton   February 28, 2007, 11:54 pm
Karen - I've noted your comment and will air it at our next board meeting. Thanks for your participation!
 Maggie   February 28, 2007, 3:22 pm
What is th eattendence at the meetings? I am just applying for membership.
 Karen Frank   February 27, 2007, 5:21 pm
I believe in order for all of us to better network we need more limelight time! I know this will help. I also think having a "hostess" or a few of them at each event will assist in others getting to know each other!
 SVSlavin   February 27, 2007, 2:12 pm
Marguerite, it could be because Jan and Feb have been incredibly busy months...true for my 2 businesses and all my clients; and, with all the Blogs and other plethora of email, I know I'm not looking for anywhere else to send messages! BUT, my question is about the NAWBO address....Ste 107, #44? Is that correct? I thought it changed FROM 107 to 44...
 marguerite Rupar   February 27, 2007, 11:33 am
Hey!
This is a great idea and hopefully we can get some feedback from members about what is good and bad. My concern right now is the lack of participation by many members. Any comments?
 Lillie Newton   February 6, 2007, 12:05 pm
